Motion of no confidence brought against Ndlambe Mayor following deadly dog attack

Ndlambe Mayor Khululwa Ncamiso

Ndlambe Municipality

The Democratic Alliance has brought a motion of no confidence against the Ndlambe Local Municipality Mayor, Khululwa Ncamiso after her son's Rottweilers mauled a man to death last month.

The 38-year-old Khayalethu Bulo died a violent death in the early hours of Saturday morning 30 April.

According to his family, he was a casual worker and was on his way to town in the hope of getting a job - something he did every day.

The family member who spoke to Algoa FM News said they would be instituting a civil claim against the dog's owner, who works as a police officer.

The lead inspector for the SPCA in Port Alfred and the Ndlambe District Anel Slabbert said he was also breeding with the dogs and still had five puppies at his home at the time of their inspection.

DA's Ndlambe Caucus Leader, Sikhumbuzo Venene said the Mayor had contravened municipal by-laws as the dog's owner, who is also a police officer, lives on her property.

He said municipal by-laws prohibit the public from owning more than one domestic animal and that those who wish to have more needed the approval of municipal protection services.

Councillor Venene added that Mayor Ncamiso had also contravened by-laws and compromised the integrity of the municipality.

The motion will be debated on May 30.
