Action SA announced that it would be contesting its first by-election outside Gauteng when it fields a candidate for the vacant Ward 43 in Nelson Mandela Bay.
The party said its provincial chairperson, Athol Trollip, has been mandated to make all arrangements to contest the Ward in Kwanobuhle in Kariega.
The by-election follows the recent murder of ANC councillor, Andile Andries, who was gunned down earlier this month with his branch treasurer, Lubabalo Keso.
The party said Kwanobuhle was a forgotten community in a corner of the Nelson Mandela Bay, promising to do “everything possible to identify the very best candidate who is a resident in the ward to represent ActionSA and the people of ward 43.”
ActionSA President, Herman Mashaba, said the successful person will be announced as soon as the selection process is concluded.
"The candidate once elected, will play a crucial role in bringing some much-needed coalition stability to a non-ANC-led coalition,” he said
The Ward 43 by-election is scheduled to take place on 6 July.
