A Good Party councillor in George says he's laid criminal charges alleging that he had received death threats from a senior manager in the Municipality.Donavan Saptoe says 10 days ago he had written to the mayor, Leon van Wyk, calling on him to table allegations in Council that two senior staff members had been irregularly appointed on the instruction of the Director for Community Services.He says Van Wyk refused to do this and he subsequently received death threats, via voice notes, directed at him and his chartered accountant wife, Roslyn.Saptoe says he's now written to the Acting Municipal Manager, Dr Michelle Gratz, calling on her to table the allegations of this very serious conduct, before Council.In a brief response, Gratz said she's taken note of Saptoe's statement and allegations, but declined to comment on staff-related matters.
She said the prescribed processes in terms of legislation will now be followed.Police confirmed that a case of intimidation was opened last month.Captain Malcolm Pojie says the probe is being done by George Detectives and a docket will be submitted to the National Prosecution Authority once complete.
