Mercedes-Benz South Africa says were up 25% in 2014 catapulting the East London-based manufacturer into the no.1 position in premium luxury market
In a statement Friday, Mercdes Benz Cars South Africa said the "year 2014 saw Mercedes-Benz Cars continue their product offensive with a number of new introductions into various luxury segments.:
Executive Director, Florian Seidler, said "the success of these new models is reflected in the final sales figures for 2014, as reported to the department of trade and industry (dti), resulting in a record number of 28 370 units. This posts growth of 25.3% over 2013 sales and has resulted in Mercedes-Benz emerging as the clear #1 brand in the Premium Luxury segment in South Africa."
"New models introduced in the latter part of 2013 and during 2014 have proven to be extremely popular with customers and this success is particularly evident in the sales volumes of our compact cars, the new C-Class and the S-Class," said Seidler.
He said models in the compact car segment include the A-Class, B-Class, CLA and GLA model variants with sales of these models growing by over 80% last year.
"The new C-Class was introduced into the South African market in May 2014 and has continued its domination of this competitive segment, as did its predecessor. Our award winning plant in East London has been ramping up for increased local and export production and the success of this process is testimony to the dedication and skills levels of our employees," Seidler added.
"More thrilling products are coming in the SUV segment and together with a full year of the new C-Class and our offer of a complete compact car range, 2015 will be just as exciting and successful as 2014," he concluded.
