A 22-year-old security guard was shot and killed during a shootout in Gqeberha on Thursday morning.
Police Spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart says two security officers were escorting a bread truck towards Gqabi street in Kwanobuhle when they were approached by two unknown men.
She says one suspect drew a firearm and started shooting at them.
Captain Swart says the officer returned fire and was killed in the crossfire.
She says the suspects disarmed both officers and fled the scene in an unknown vehicle.
A case of murder is under investigation.
The name of the deceased will be released once he is formally identified.
