A couple is expected to appear in the George Magistrates Court on Friday for allegedly kidnapping their child who was placed in a house of safety.
Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie says the 13-year-old boy was placed in a home by the courts in December last year.
He says the child's parents, who are both unemployed and homeless, allegedly fetched their son at school on Wednesday.
Captain Pojie says all role players were immediately activated.
He says private community members offered their private drones to assist in the search when the trio was spotted at the Outeniqua Mountains near the old Montagu-Pass.
Police expanded their search on foot and traced the couple late into the night until they were eventually traced and arrested.
Captain Pojie says the child has since been placed back in safety while his parents, aged 36 and 46 will face a charge of kidnapping.
