A 28-year-old Eastern Cape man is due to appear in court in Keiskammahoek on Monday in connection with the murder of an elderly couple, aged 73 and 83.
Police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa, said the gruesome incident took place on Saturday night in Cata Location outside the town.
She said the preliminary investigations revealed that the elderly couple had been hacked to death with an axe.
Mawisa said the suspect was apprehended by community members and handed over to the police who also seized the alleged murder weapon.
She said the suspect faces two counts of murder.
The names of the elderly victims were not released.
