A man who just turned 25 has drowned at Nahoon beach in East London on Saturday.
Spokesperson for the Nasional Sea Rescue Institute Craig Lambinon says the man was seen being swept out to sea by rip currents before disappearing under water.
The NSRI team responded immediately and joined a lifeguard from the Buffalo City Municipality who informed them that one man was rescued by surfers.
The man was in a stable condition and taken to hospital where he was treated for non-fatal drowning symptoms.
Lambinon says police and emergency services joined to search for the 25-year-old.
Despite an extensive search no sign of the man was found. The search will continue on Sunday.
