An eight-year-old boy has drowned in a dam in Joubertina.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says Shane-Dee Witbooi and 3 of his friends were playing in the dam when he drowned on Thursday afternoon.
He had been paddling on a polystyrene board in the dam at a place known as "Die Kampie", when the board tilted and he fell into the water.
Naidu has called on parents to keep an eye on their children at all times, especially in rural areas.
She says the dams and rivers are full after the rains, and children in farming communities often enjoy swimming and playing in dams and large water puddles.
