The so-called turf war between the taxi industry and e-hailing drivers in Gqeberha continues as yet another vehicle has been set alight.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says on Tuesday afternoon a 21-year-old e-hailing driver was dropping off a client in Mount Croix when three unknown suspects in two Quantum taxis approached him.
She says according to the complainant the suspects were wearing balaclavas and reflector jackets and forced him into the back of his car.
Colonel Naidu says they drove to New Brighton near the Railway flats where he was removed from his vehicle before it was set alight.
She says they also stole the complainant's phone and dropped him off a few blocks away.
A case of vehicle hijacking is under investigation.
This is the second vehicle to be set alight this week following an incident in the CBD on Monday.
Colonel Naidu said the 44-year-old driver of a Chevrolet Spark was on his way to a fish shop at the harbour at about 11 am when a minibus taxi blocked him in Strand street.
She says the driver alleged that several men jumped out of the taxi and forced him out of his car before assaulting him.
Colonel Naidu says the driver managed to escape before his car was set alight.
