Eastern Cape COGTA MEC Fikile Xasa has welcomed the decision by President Cyril Ramaphosa to give the Special investigation Unit the go-ahead to investigate maladministration allegations relating to former President Nelson Mandela's funeral.
Ramaphosa announced several proclamations for the SIU to investigate irregularities at several levels of government last week.
All the matters in the province relate to alleged corruption surrounding Madiba's funeral.
The municipalities that were mentioned to be investigated include Buffalo City Metro, King Sabata Dalindyebo, OR Tambo and the Nelson Mandela Metro.
Xasa said the investigations would provide an opportunity for all involved individuals to come forward and clear their name.
He called for effective coordination from all cited municipalities.
"We must bring closure to this matter especially as it takes place in the year in which we celebrate the Centenary of Nelson Mandela. All wrongdoers must face the full might of the law without fear or favour. Acts of corruption, collusion and other criminal activities in the private and public sector, must be fought with equal diligence and determination," he said.
Xasa also asked leaders to distance themselves from all forms of maladministration by taking charge of community complaints.
"Communities have started to take up the fight against acts of fraud and corruption through protest actions to highlight lack of service delivery including allegations of rampant acts of maladministration and misuse of public resources," he added.
Xasa said the fight against fraud and corruption has remained an important priority of government.
