The academic programme at Walter Sisulu University's three campuses has been disrupted due to student protests.

Spokesperson, Yonela Tukwayo, said students at the Butterworth and Mthatha campuses submitted a memorandum with seven demands to the management on Friday.

She said some of the grievances include the demand for a transport allowance, incorrect academic results and a food allowance among others.

The students also indicated that there has been an issue with the university's admission and registration process.

Tukwayo said management has requested calm and order.

"We are engaging with students to try and resolve all the outstanding issues to make sure we can return those campuses to normality as soon as possible," she said.

She also said that the destruction of property has been seen during the protest at the Butterworth campus.

The university's management has condemned this behaviour by students and urged them to use open channels of communication to engage.
