WSU strike over

The National Education Health and Allied Workers Union has called off its seven-week old strike at Walter Sisulu University.

This follows a stake-holder meeting in East London on Thursday where the striking employees accepted a new wage offer.

Nehawu spokesperson, Sizwe Pamla, says they're communicating with their members to return to work on Monday.

"We met with the institution on Thursday evening where they put an offer of 5% and as the workers we accepted the offer and we also decided most of the issues that are still ongoing in terms of our negotiations we are going to hand it over to a stakeholder engagement, We then took a decision to call of the strike" he said.

Last week WSU administrator, professor Lourens van Staden closed the university's four campuses and ordered all students to vacate their residences because he said their safety could not be guaranteed.
