A 26-year-old man appeared in the Eland Heights magistrate's court on Tuesday in connection with the murder of Eastern Cape farmer, Hercules Jordaan.
Police spokesperson, lieutenant Raphael Moutlong, says the case against Sivuyile Ncubeni was postponed to the 7th of August for a bail application.
He was arrested over the weekend after 67-year-old Jordaan was allegedly killed by two farm workers on Friday, who also ransacked his farmhouse near Maclear in the north Eastern Cape.
Moutlong says the search for the second suspect is still underway.
Meanwhile, Agri Eastern Cape has expressed its deep concern over recent farm attacks.
This included the murder of Jordaan and the attack on another farmer and his wife near Komga last week.
They were not seriously injured.
"Alarmingly, the statistic for violent crimes against commercial farmers since 1994 shows that it is now approaching 5000 different incidents, of which nearly half have been fatal. This accounts for roughly 12,5% of the total number of commercial farmers in South Africa, and completely dwarfs the equivalent statistics for Zimbabwe over this period," Agri Eastern Cape said..
