Work at NMB's new water treatment works progressing

Work being done on Phase 4 of Nelson Mandela Bay's new water treatment works is said to be progressing at commendable speed.

That's according to the acting mayor, Thsonono Buyeye, following Wednesday's site visit to the Coegakop Wellfield and Water Treatment Works.

Work on the water augmentation project had been delayed due to contractual issues, but Buyeye says the last phase of the multi-million rand project finally started in May.

He said this project was critical to the Metro as it will augment water supply between 15 and 10 megalitres a day on completion in 2022.

"The prolonged delay in the project has set us back as a City in our water shortage challenge.”

“We had to deal with a lot of negativity when it comes to this project and even had to answer in Parliament as to why there were delays. So for us to come here and see progress, that gives us hope," Buyeye said.
