Police in Bethelsdorp in Gqeberha are urgently seeking the public's assistance in tracing the family of a woman whose body was found in a stormwater drain on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the grim find was made by municipal workers who were clearing blockages in stormwater drains at the back of Nompumulelo Street in the area of Kwanoxolo.
She said there were no visible injuries on the woman, believed to be aged between 20 and 30, adding that the body was already in a state of decomposition.
“She was naked when found,” Naidu said.
She said the deceased had several tattoos on her foot, arm, and on her back where the name VELENCIA RIP, followed by the name or word PAILO, appears.
“At this stage, police have opened an inquest pending the post-mortem report,” said Naidu.
Police are urging anyone who can assist in identifying the deceased to contact SAPS Bethelsdorp or their nearest police station.
