Police in Gqeberha are searching for a man who allegedly raped a woman on the beach in Summerstrand opposite the student accommodation in Marine Drive.
Spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the incident happened on Tuesday morning, 25 July.
She says the 20-year-old complainant was alone when she was approached by a suspect armed with a panga.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says the man stole her cell phone and raped her but fled on foot when he was distracted by a passerby.
She says the victim opened a case of rape at Humewood SAPS and assisted police in compiling an identikit of the suspect.
The suspect is approximately 1.7 m tall, in his late twenties, wearing black pants and a red jacket.
Anyone who can assist in the investigation can contact Detective Constable Babalwa Ramba on 071 475 1737.
Last week, a couple walking along Marine Drive was robbed of their phones by three suspects, one armed with a knife.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says shortly after stealing the phones, the suspects, aged between 25-33, jumped into a nearby taxi where they were swiftly arrested by a nearby K9 unit.
On Monday, members from Fidelity ADT in Gqeberha were doing a crime prevention operation along the beachfront when they noticed a suspicious man jumping into some bushes in front of a hotel on Brookes Hill Street.
In a brief statement, Fidelity ADT said the suspect was quickly detained and two phones were found in his possession.
The team checked the screensavers and knew that the phones did not belong to the suspect.
Police later confirmed that a guest from another nearby hotel had just been mugged.
