A Gqeberha woman, who is accused of strangling her boyfriend's child on Maitlands Beach this week, made a brief court appearance on Thursday.

Twenty-five-year old Lesley-Ann Damons allegedly hiked to the beach with nine-year-old Quinisha Sebrand, where she was strangled and left on the beach.

Damon later reported the matter to the Seaview police and was arrested.

The State has asked for Damons to be admitted into a State Institution to assess her emotional wellbeing.

Several community members gathered outside the court to express their outrage

One community member, Destiny Tobias spoke to Algoa FM news after proceedings saying that there would never be justice for the death of an innocent child.

The matter has been postponed until Friday.

According to police, Damons fetched the child from her house in Extention 28 in Bethelsdorp on Tuesday to take her for a haircut at about 9h00.

Colonel Priscilla Naidu says Damons and Quinisha Sebrand, then hiked to the beach where she was strangled.

At about 9 pm on Tuesday, Damons went to the satellite police station in Seaview to report the incident.

Sebrand's body was then found at Maitland Beach.
