A woman has jumped to her death at the Van Stadens bridge on the N2 west of Port Elizabeth.
Police spokesperson, Lt.-Col. Priscilla Naidu, says the 36-year-old woman, who was from Port Elizabeth, parked her car on the bridge, walked across to the other side of the road, and jumped.
The suicide happened at about six o'clock last night.
Naidu says the body of the woman, who has not been named, has been retreived.
She was the 82nd person who committed suicide by jumping from the bridge, into the gorge some 120 metres below.
The first was just days after the bridge was opened to traffic in November 1971.
