Woman found in Uitenhage bushes was strangled to death

The identity of a woman whose naked body was found in bushes in Uitenhage last week is still not known.

Police Spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart says a post mortem was conducted on Monday and the cause of death was strangulation.

She says the coloured woman, who is between the ages of 20 and 30 years old, is still unidentified.

A community member discovered the woman's body in the bushes near Ross Gradwell Street on Thursday morning.

Swart says the standard police procedures will now continue in order to identify the deceased.

She says the victim had multiple scratch marks on her body, indicating that she had been dragged through the bushes.

Police estimate that she had been dead for no more than one or two days.

Anybody who might be looking for a missing female relative is kindly requested to contact the police.

The investigating officer is Detective Warrant Officer Deon Roos who can be reached on 079 896 8148
