A wildfire has destroyed an estimated 3,000 hectares of land in the Addo Elephant National (AENP) in the Eastern Cape.
The fire, which has since been brought under control, broke out in the Zuurberg section of the park on Sunday night and has since spread to the Nyathi section.
On Tuesday, SANParks spokesperson JP Louw said the wind has since changed direction, and the fire was burning slowly.
Aside from damage to the boundary fence, there were no animal losses or other infrastructure.
"It is estimated that there are about 3, 000 hectares that have been burnt but the teams on the ground will only be able to assess that once the weather and smoke allow," said Louw.
"The fires are in remote areas of AENP so the public is not in danger."
He added that less wind and rain is predicted for Wednesday, which will assist with containing the fire.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
Teams from the AENP and the Sarah Baartman West Fire Protection Association are on site to manage the situation.
SANParks extended its gratitude to the public for their cooperation and understanding.
