A man from Wilderness who had more than 56 000 explicit images and videos of child porn on his phone and computer was sentenced in the George Regional Court on Friday.
The 38-year-old Tyrone James was jailed for 12 years of which four years were suspended for a period of four years.
James also received a four year suspended sentence for the possession of drugs.
He was arrested two years ago at a routine roadblock outside the Wilderness after police found drugs in his car.
During the arrest, James asked to make a phone call when an alert police officer spotted child pornography on this cellphone.
After his arrest, police raided his house in Wilderness and seized hard drives containing thousands of explicit images.
Both the sentences will run concurrently.
