The Fire Deparment in Nelson Mandela Bay has issued a warning to motorists to travel with extreme caution on the N2 in the vicinity of Bay West because of a veld fire which is reducing visibility in the area.
Smoke being blown across the highway caused an accident earlier this afternoon which involved several vehicles.
The N2 is currently open and Traffic Department officials are on the scene directing traffic.
A fire department spokesperson told Algoa FM News that the veld fire is burning over a large area and that they expect to work into this evening to bring the situation under control.
Eight fire fighting units are currently in attendance and are being used to fight both the fire and to ensure the safety of properties.
No properties are under threat at the moment.
This is a fluid situation.
