Who could possibly abandon a child like this?

The Port Elizabeth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Police Unit is urgently seeking the community's assistance in tracing the parents of a baby boy who was left at the SOS Children's home in Shauderville.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says a couple dropped off the 4-month-old baby boy at the home at 09h30 on Thursday morning and told staff they had found the child crying at the back of a house in Jacksonville.

She says when staff asked the woman, suspected to be in her 30's, more information she shoved the infant into the arms of a staff member and they rushed off,  leaving behind two bags filled with baby clothes and bottles.

Colonel Naidu says police are now investigating a case of child abandonment and are urging anyone who may recognise the child or his parents to urgently contact them.

The investigating officer is D/Sgt Kelibone Mokhatla and her number is 071 475 2327 or their nearest police station.
