A 29-year-old Wells Estate woman has been arrested and detained on a charge of murder after the fatal stabbing of her fiancé during the early hours of Sunday morning.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says around 03h00 the couple returned home from a party when they became involved in an argument.
She says the woman then ordered her boyfriend to leave.
Its alleged, however, that he started to assault her and that during the physical altercation he was stabbed in the chest and back.
The 34-year-old man succumbed to his injuries at a nearby clinic in Elephant Park in Wells Estate.
Colonel Naidu says the woman was arrested at the crime scene and detained on a charge of murder.
She is expected to appear in the Motherwell magistrate's court on Monday.
The next of kin of the deceased have not yet been informed.
