A 51 year-old Port Elizabeth anesthetist has died during a paddle race at the St Francis beach.
The National Sea Rescue Institute says Dr. Trevor Vaughan was declared dead on the scene on Monday, despite efforts by two cardiologists who were taking part in the race.
The NSRI says private ambulance services were on the scene within minutes and paramedics assisted with the CPR efforts.
Dr. Vaughan is survived by his wife and three daughters.
