Weekend loadshedding...... more than likely

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality today (Friday, 28 November 2014) received a notification from Eskom advising us that "a very high probability exists that Eskom will implement loadshedding this weekend (Saturday and Sunday, 29 and 30 November 2014) to stabilise the power system."

Should the NMBM be required to implement such loadshedding, we will do so in accordance with the 2-hourly schedule that has been widely publicised and which appears on our website www.nelsonmandelabay.gov.za

As always, major plants and factories and hospitals are not affected by the loadshedding, and loadshedding will not occur between 22:00 at night and 06:00 in the morning.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality trusts that Eskom does not require us to implement loadshedding over this weekend - in this regard, we do appeal to all our residents to use electricity as sparingly as possible so as to lessen the possibility thereof. The NMBM loadshedding schedule (a) is designed to have a minimal disruption or impact on our residents' lives, and (b) is fairly distributed among all eight groups so that each is switched off over a different 2-hour slot over the loadshedding period.

The Municipality remains hopeful that Eskom will constructively address its capacity supply constraints in the short-to-medium term so that loadshedding does not become a way of life for South Africans.
