The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued more warnings for the Eastern Cape almost a week after torrential rain and floods swept through the Province, claiming 11 lives.
The latest warnings are valid for Friday, 7 June 2024.
Orange Level 5 warning for storm surges is expected in places along the coast between Plettenberg Bay and Buffalo City (BCM) due to an increased sea level of 0.4m above the highest astronomical high tide combined with already flooding rivers.
Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging winds resulting in localised damage to harbours and ports and the disruption of transportation between Plettenberg Bay and Cape St. Francis from this evening, spreading to East London, reaching Port Edward by Friday.
Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging waves resulting in difficulty in navigation and small vessels taking on water expected between Plett and East London reaching Port Edward.
Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive snow leading to icy roads and traffic disruptions with the possibility of some passes being closed for a short period.
Affected areas include the Elundini, Senqu and Sakhisizwe Local Municipalities.
These include towns like Ugie, Nqanqarhu (formerly Maclear), Mount Fletcher, Sterkspruit, Elliot, and Engcobo.
