Weather leads to flight cancellations at EL Airport again

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) has suspended the Air Traffic Navigation System (ATNS) procedures for operations at the King Phalo Airport in East London.

FlySafair took to social media on Tuesday to issue a statement, citing circumstances beyond their control.

The Airline says the safety of passengers is of the utmost importance and SACAA failed to have the procedures for landing in certain weather conditions renewed as per regulations.

FlySafair said it was actively working with both ATNS and SACAA, who are both entities of the state and bound by strict regulations, to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

"However, this disruption is part of a longer-term ATNS procedural backlog that will require more comprehensive action in the future.

"While we are closely monitoring the situation, it is unlikely that all flights scheduled for Tuesday will be accommodated.

"FlySafair understands the significant inconvenience this may cause and sincerely apologises for the disruption.

"Our customer service team is ready to assist affected passengers with alternative arrangements, including rebooking options or refund solutions for cancelled flights.

"We appreciate the patience and understanding of the public as we work closely with ACSA and ATNS to ensure passenger safety during these adverse conditions, and to address the longer-term challenges at the airport.

"Passenger safety remains our highest priority." the statement concluded

Last month, six flights were cancelled in East London while two others were delayed.
