Amatola Water says Peddie and surrounds are currently experiencing water shortages due to a burnt unit in a transformer at the Craighead raw water pump station.
It says the thunder storm experienced in the area over the weekend is reported to be the main cause of the breakdown.
According to Amatola Water Acting Operations Director, Sazile Qweleka, among the areas affected by the water shortage are Peddie Hospital, Peddie South and the Tyefu area from Mt. Somerset.
He's called on communities in the affected areas to use water sparingly until the problem is resolved.
Qweleka says they're working jointly with Eskom in order to have the transformer fixed and that the water supply will be fully restored by Tuesday morning.
