Residents of Plettenberg Bay will have to live with level-one water restrictions, affecting households with swimming pools, sporting facilities, and nurseries.
Municipal Manager Mbulelo Memani says the restrictions include the watering of gardens, sports fields, and golf course greens.
He has urged residents to cut consumption by 15% or warns that stricter measures may be introduced.
The watering of plants and trees in commercial, state, and municipal nurseries is prohibited.
Memani said the water restrictions are being implemented in line with Bitou Municipality's Drought Management Policy and were mainly the result of the Roodefontein Dam dropping below 80% of capacity.
