Water rationing to be implemented in parts of the Eastern Cape

Although water rationing in areas such as Butterworth was lifted last week following some rain, the Gcuwa weir has once again stopped overflowing thus requiring urgent water for stringent rationing once again. Water will be turned off between  9pm and 5am.

This is to ensure the availability will last as long as possible.

In the case of Bedford, the water treated and supplied will be reduced to the amount of water that can be abstracted from the Fish River scheme. In other words, no water will be abstracted from the dam (Andrew Turpin) in order to allow for the level to recover. Water will be turned off at 9pm and will be turned on again at 5am. Higher lying areas will be particularly susceptible to water outages.

In Adelaide, water supply from the Dam will be reduced by 30% and rationing will be implemented by turning the water off at 9pm and opening again at 5am. If water consumption remains unchanged, water will run out (specifically in higher lying areas) before it is turned off at 9pm. So it is critical that water is used as sparingly as possible.

Furthermore, in terms of Section 38 of ADM Water Supply and Sanitation Service By –law, the following will be prohibited with effect from 06h00 on 22 May 2017 until further notice:
