A man who bought a bakkie that was advertised on social media soon realised he was duped out of his money when he was informed that the car belonged to a woman who was struggling to pay her instalments.
Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo says a warrant of arrest has now been issued for 28-year-old Jermaine Tyson Sathialall who allegedly swindled several people in the Durban area.
She says the latest incident happened in July 2021 when Sethialall advertised a bakkie on social media.
An unsuspecting victim then transferred R179 000 into his account and only two days later when he tried to transfer the vehicle onto his name did he find out that the log book in his possession was fake and that the car belonged to someone else.
Constable Ngcobo says the Bank was in the process of repossessing her vehicle.
A case was opened at the Bellair Saps where it was established that similar cases had been opened against the suspect in Verulam, Durban and Port Shepstone.
The suspect's whereabouts are not known at this stage and any person with information is asked to come forward.
Tip-offs can be given to the Investigating Officer Detective Sergeant Pillay on 079 483 2820
