Victims duped by "Facebook Romeo" asked to come forward

Police in Stellenbosch are asking women who fell victim to an alleged fraudster named Rudi Brits, to come forward.

Brits, who was arrested in Port Elizabeth in November, is alleged to have befriended wealthy white women on Facebook with whom he would start a relationship.

Police Spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana says Brits would move in with the victims and would borrow substantial amounts of money from them.

He says Brits would then disappear with the money and expensive household goods.

Cases of theft and fraud were committed as far back as 2010.

Rwexana says Brits is currently in custody in Stellenbosch and will appear in court again on the 6th of February for a formal bail application.

Police are urging his victims who have not laid a complaint to please come forward and do so.

Victims can contact Colonel Deon Beneke on 082 8509 742
