Gqeberha police have released the name of the man who was killed when his car plunged into the Swartkops River on Monday.
The deceased was identified as 47-year-old Kayalethu Kabane from Qonce (King Williams Town).
Kabane appeared to have lost control of his BMW shortly after midnight on Monday before colliding with the roadside barrier.
Police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart says the vehicle went down an embankment and landed in the Swartkops River.
Kabane's body was found lying on the cement path next to the river and it is believed that he was flung out of his vehicle.
A case of culpable homicide is under investigation.
