Vice President of NMB Business Chamber kidnapped

Vice President of NMB Business Chamber Kelvin Naidoo

Suppplied

The Vice President of the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber, Kelvin Naidoo was kidnapped outside his workplace in Lindsay Road in Gqeberha on Friday morning.

The 51-year-old Manufacturing and Technical Executive of Auto X stopped at his workplace at about 6 am in Korsten, when a Nissan NP200, without number plates, bumped into his vehicle forcing him to stop.

Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says another bakkie stopped behind him and five suspects with balaclavas got out and pulled Naidoo out of his Mercedes Benz.

She says the suspects shoved Naidoo into another vehicle and fled the scene.

The Nissan NP200 was reportedly hijacked in Motherwell last month.

The motive for the kidnapping is unclear at this stage, and the investigation is ongoing.

“We are devastated that Kelvin Naidoo, Technical Director of Auto X and Vice-President of the Chamber, was kidnapped this morning. We are praying for his urgent and safe return to his family.

"Kelvin is a valued member of our business community and volunteers significant time in driving and supporting key interventions and initiatives which benefit the greater good of our local economy and the communities of the Bay.

"It is our view that an urgent intervention is required by the authorities from national, provincial and local levels to ensure that strong, proactive and visible policing is in place to prevent crimes such as this from taking place” – Denise van Huyssteen, Chamber CEO.
