Very fishy scam doing the rounds in Mossel Bay

If you're in and around Mossel Bay and something smells like fish and chips .. it may not be from the nearest fast food outlet.

Police have cautioned residents about a scam doing the rounds.

The Mossel Bay Police Station warned residents not to buy diesel from individuals on the street as the product might be mixed with old oil used to make fish and chips.

The police are investigating several complaints of diesel that was stolen out of vehicles in especially the Heiderand area.

The diesel is transfused into containers and then mixed with oil to increase the volume before.

Police warned that the long-term effect of the mixture is harmful to a vehicle's engine and that the engine will smell like fish and chips.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old man was arrested after he stole nearly 80 liters of diesel from a bus in Mossel Bay. The suspect appeared in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court on a charge of theft out of a motor vehicle .
