Vehicle 'Crisis' for PE Flying Squad

Eastern Cape Police have confirmed that the Flying Squad in Port Elizabeth is experiencing a vehicle shortage at the moment.

Algoa FM News has learned that 13 vehicles were out of action and under mechanical repair.

However, provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Marinda Mills, says once they heard about the problem, two vehicles were immediately made available as a temporary measure.

She adds that two additional vehicles were released on Tuesday.

Mills adds that every police station in Nelson Mandela Bay Metro has sufficient vehicles to attend to complaints in their respective precincts and that the flying squad is there to support that capacity.

She says complaints are prioritised in terms of whether they are life threatening or an emergency situation, in which case vehicles from any unit can at any given time be dispatched to those emergency situations.

Mills says the Flying squad has been prioritised for the allocation of new vehicles as soon as they take delivery from service providers.
