Various shooting incidents in Nelson Mandela Metro


A taxi driver from Rosedale, Uitenhage was killed and one of his passengers injured, after shots were fired at his taxi on Saturday.

Police spokesperson, WO Marianette Olivier says 40-year old De Waal Loff picked up three passengers in Kamesh, and opposite Oasis Tavern, shots were fired at the vehicle.

She says Loff died at the scene and one of the passengers, a 36 year old woman was wounded and taken to hospital.

Olivier says the motive for the attack is not known, and no arrests have yet been made.

Meanwhile, Port Elizabeth police are investigating two seperate shooting incidents in the metro over the weekend.

Spokesperson, capt. Johan Rheeder says 3 suspects fired shots in Bloemendal on Saturday, but no-one was injured.

He says in a seperate incident, various shots were fired in Malabar on Saturday.

Nobody was injured, but a house was damaged.

Rheeder says both incidents were related to gang violence.

No arrests have yet been made.
