The Nelson Mandela Business Chamber says Eskom has issued an urgent message to organised business in the Eastern Cape, saying the electricity grid will be under significant strain between
5.30pm and 6.30pm Thursday.
The Chamber said in statement that retailers can assist by switching off all non-essential loads during this hour.
Meanwhile, Eskom spokesperson, Andrew Etzinger, says they had to reduce demand Wednesday night due to high demand and technical problems at two power stations.
He told Algoa FM News that the situation is stable at the moment with power to all customers fully restored.
However, he says the two problem generators are still beign worked on.
"Our risk for the early evening tonight (Thurs) is there. If our plant performs according to schedule we'll be OK, but there's always the underlying risk of load-shedding if things go wrong."
Etzinger says "once again early evening from about 5pm to about 6.30pm is our time of greatest vulnerability and we're asking our customers to please use electricity very sparingly over that time to make sure that we keep the system in balance."
