As many as 11 houses were “pretty much” destroyed in a fire that swept through a part of St Francis Bay on Thursday.
The fire was reported to have started at around 3pm in a veld in the vicinity of Lyme Road and then quickly engulfed several houses.
The Kouga Municipality called in support from Nelson Mandela Bay and helicopters were also used.
In a Facebook post after 7pm, the Municipality said that the fire was “contained”.
Local councillor, Brenton Williams, told Algoa FM News that as many as 11 houses were “pretty much” destroyed.
He said that between 80 and 100 fire-fighters were on the ground and would be looking out for any flare-ups.
