Unqualified audit report for Oudtshoorn municipality

The Oudtshoorn Municipality on Monday received an unqualified audit report from the Auditor General for the 2011/12 financial year.

In achieving the unqualified audit report, the municipality had to redress non-compliance issues, asset register deviations, loan administration deficiencies and faulty designation of provisions, municipal spokesman Ntobeko Mangqwengqwe said.
Mangqwengqwe said the efforts of the late chief financial officer, Deon Lott, who died earlier this year, could not be underestimated in making the achievement possible.

"He (Lott) steered the municipality's financial management from a state marked by administrative indifference to one where managers and staff are proud of their product."

However the municipality has acknowledged that it will have to improve in some areas, such as supply chain management.
In response to the unqualified audit yesterday, Oudtshoorn mayor Gordon April said: "The unqualified audit report indicates that the administration is living up to the municipality's institutional values: accountability, integrity, transparency, mutual respect; and innovation.

Solid financial reporting allows the administration to provide a better service, improve the lives of people and create a conducive environment for sustainable economic and social development."
