The Nelson Mandela Bay Muncipality has served striking refuse truck drivers with an ultimatum that they return to work by Thursday or face the prospect of steps being taken against them.
The wild cat strike action started on Tuesday when the refuse removal drivers from Uitenhage, Despatch, Motherwell, Struandale, Gale and Harrower Road depots downed tools over pay related issues.
Muncipality spokesperson, Kupido Baron says the muncipality reserves its right to take legal action if workers do not comply.
In the interim, the muncipality is asking residents to keep their refuse bags until the next collection date or to make use of the nearest garden or landfill sites to dispose of their refuse.
Meanwhile, Police Spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg confirmed a protest action earlier on Wednesday at the Arlingston tip but said the situation was kept under control.
