An Eastern Cape mother who tried to force her teenage daughter into marriage is due to apply for bail in the Dutywa Magistrate's Court on Friday.
The 54-year-old woman was arrested along with her 22-year-old son and a 28-year-old man who was preparing to marry the woman's 19-year-old daughter.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Sibongile Soci, says the teenager was abducted in late July and taken to Mvezo where she was allegedly held against her will.
She managed to escape and returned home only to be forced back to Mvezo by her family.
Soci says the young woman was able to contact a friend who alerted police, leading to the arrest of her family members.
The three accused are facing a charge of abduction.
Ukuthwala is a common practice in South Africa where children are forced into marriage, often without the consent of parents.
