Uitenhage police are investigating a case of murder after the body of an elderly woman was found in bushes on Tuesday morning.
Police spokesperson, warrant officer Gerda Swart, says the woman, believed to be in her sixties, had been brutally assaulted.
She was still alive when found by a passerby on the Groendal gravel road, but died later in hospital.
Swart says no arrests have been made yet but police are pursuing several leads.
