A 27-year-old man from Kamesh in Uitenhage is in police custody following his arrest for allegedly killing his mother.
Police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart says police responded to a complaint of assault at a house in the Mcarthy informal settlement on Thursday where they found the body of a 56-year-old woman.
The deceased who is the accused's mother had a wound to her head and was declared dead on the scene.
Swart says she was allegedly repeatedly assaulted with a gas bottle.
She says the accused was arrested and taken for medical observation.
The motive for the murder is unknown at this stage.
