Members of the Uitenhage policing cluster have arrested two suspects for the possession of stolen goods worth more than 30-thousand rand.
Captain Gerda Swart says that early on Wednesday morning, members of the Operational Command Centre on patrol in the Uitenhage CBD recovered a large amount of clothing believed to have been stolen in a burglary.
Shortly before 1.30 am, members noticed a suspicious black Ford Fiesta with two male occupants travelling down Caledon Street with the lights of their vehicle turned off.
A high-speed chase ensued and ended when the driver of the Ford Fiesta lost control and hit a signpost before crashing into a wall.
Officials acted promptly and discovered bundles of clothing with their tags still intact inside the vehicle.
An official from a local security company joined the officials on the scene and informed them that the suspects had broken into a business situated in Caledon Street, Uitenhage and stolen the clothing.
Both suspects (ages 23 and 24) were arrested on the scene and will appear in the Uitenhage magistrate's court on Thursday on a string of charges including housebreaking and theft and reckless and negligent driving.
