Uitenhage police have arrested six suspects on charges of attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of presumed stolen property.
Police stopped a white Daihatsu minibus on the R75 near Azalia Park in Despatch on Tuesday night after a high speed chase from Kamesh.
Six men travelling inside a minibus were arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and 5 rounds of ammunition, while a backpack with jewellery, a computer tower and three cellphones, presumed to be stolen, were also recovered from the vehicle.
Police say the six armed suspects were allegedly involved in a shooting in Kamesh, where a 35-year-old was shot in the leg and buttocks.
The motive for the shooting is not known, and the wounded was taken to hospital.
The suspects aged between 20 and 34 are due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court soon.
