Two hijacking suspects are being held in custody following a wild shootout in Kamesh, Uitenhage, at around 3pm on Thursday.
Police Sergeant Majola Nkohli says the hijackers armed with firearms accosted a man and his wife and demanded the keys of his lease VW Polo at gunpoint in Acacia Street, Kamesh.
They sped off in the Polo and moments later K9 unit members spotted the vehicle in Channer Street where a shootout ensued.
The driver lost control and the Polo rolled several metres before coming to rest in Graaff -Reinet Road, Uitenhage.
Two suspects aged 22 and 28 were arrested. A firearm was seized and an injured suspect is under police guard at Uitenhage Provincial Hospital.
