Uitenhage man jailed for life for murder of pregnant Somali woman

A twenty-one year old Uitenhage man has been jailed for life for the murder of a heavily pregnant Somali woman.

Judge Bonisile Sandi today also sentenced Ashley Whitbooi, to an additional 15 years for housebreaking and robbery.

He was convicted on Friday for the murder 22-year old Somali national, Nasri Qamaan, last September.

Meanwhile, Somalian community leader, Sheik Shakir Adam, says they feel they are soft targets.

He was also commenting on the killing of a Somali national on Thursday in Booysens Park, during three days of rioting.

"The problem was in Booysens Park, people were looted, some of them killed and injured. This is not the first time, this also happened many years ago. This is something that continues all the time. I really can not tell you, we are feeling softly targeted, nobody is looking after us and the goverment is still sleeping."
